First Draft of Digipak

This is the first draft, it definitely shuns too many conventions to be used.
Improvement notes:

  • font for album title need changing, colour outline
  • more colour pop
  • placement of sticker + text
  • parental advisory logo suggest USA
  • photo on front should just be her
  • difficult to read text on the back

  1. 1: Could do with cropped layers: when you're talking about a specific detail, you only show the full cover over and over. If you look at mine you'll see what you should be doing. I often keep the full cover in then add a transformed+cropped part of that (even keyframed at times, but thats not needed)
2: 330 "there are usually about 12 songs". Good example of whats missing here: evidence of APPLYING research. Without using images from completed/draft versions, state/illustrate how you intend to APPLY (= INFLUENCES) this. eg: how many (exactly) tracks do you intend to use? Based on which SPECIFIC examples? That would be directly linked into the point on bonus material/tracks.
3: It would work better if you discussed AFTER the 'common' conventions the OUTLIER/EXCEPTION/UNCONVENTIONAL examples you've got there, then you wouldn't need to keep reiterating that point, simply stating at the start that you will flag up some examples which largely ignore many of the conventions you are about to explain.
4: Around 6:19 you have a greeeeat point, but don't make use of it - you're indirectly flagging up SELF-DISTRIBUTION/CONVERGENCE/WEB 2.0 but basically skipping over it. Screenshots of her website/social pushing these would be great, and its a v good opp to showcase the cIa (the I in CIA) K+U!
5: Logos. Look at 6:40. Just be thorough. You've mostly recorded the VO you need, but make sure you consistently and very precisely illustrate each point. No sign of record co logos. Again, aim to track a bit closer to my vodcast. I still remember doing it, was quite quick compared to any on moving image!
6: SPINE - stack up cropped/rotated layers of spines!!! You've just pointed at ONE so far! Good eg too of how you might illustrate APPLYING/INFLUENCE: even if crudely, take ONE eg + (if Ppt?!) put a text box over the writing, sub in yours, + put on screen any logos you'll switch with. 7:20 you're again making an important point (on fonts/colours) but skipping over it
7: Signed like this > screenshot of shop/listing (or bought at gig?). + again make the INDUSTRY K+U really CLEAR/EXPLICIT
8: Lyric booklets - same point as above a couple of times: any INFLUENCE from this on YOUR plans?
9: PACKAGE - again, reiterating above: you need to ILLUSTRATE your spoken points - I think you already did this (dpak>web>vid) in a post/Ppt?? You'll need such pics again for Eval Q.
10: Not sure you'll like this idea, but I'd suggest doing (or reusing) an ident to brand ALL your vodcasts. NOT needed, but I do think it will help your mindframe on these.
I'd estimate total time for the above would be 1-2 hours. Lot of points, but its not complex editing. You need to add further pics to the FCPX event; do more cropping/rotating/transforming to highlight specific points; be clear on INFLUENCES/APPLYING RESEARCH - the brief bit at the end doesn't do that too much; a bit more on industry context where it crops up (so a couple of extra bits of VO). Very do-able in 1-2hrs.
